Louise Boursier was a midwife and scholar in 17th century France. Midwife to Queen Marie de Medici, she was the first person to turn word-of-mouth midwifery practice into published texts. These reveal much about the social, medical, and legal demands she faced. Their impact can still be seen today.

Catherine Hampton is Reader in French at the School of Modern Languages and Cultures at the University of Warwick.

This event is organised by the Friends of Stony Stratford Library (FoSSL).
